Talk Shop Tuesday
We wound our way through the drizzling rain over to Vanessa Bruno which is tucked away on a quiet street, it´s so hidden it didn´t even appear on our maps app.
I´d passed by this street a million times and had no idea that we had a Vanessa Bruno in Lyon, but my fashion forward Lyon newbie knew it from the start. Let´s go exploring....
First of all the walls of the shop are littered with photos of Kate Bosworth, which I think I referenced this video in a earlier post.
Really my eyes were drawn to the knee length boots that come in a variety of colors. I adore the dusty pink ones on the sale shelf but didn´t dare peak at the price. Too tempting. Her collection included very soft colors and ethereal fabrics. Simple at first glance but the beauty really comes from the details. You will probably recognize many different knockoffs of this bag of hers.
Travel Guide?
Paul and I through Barcelona and Paris. Loved everything. Just wanted to share. I will be posting pics soon. Xoxo, Janellica¨
I´ve been getting a lot of requests from friends to help them plan their trips while in Barcelona and France. Maybe I should start charging for this.

Stylist Friday
http://catherinebaba.com/
From WikiFashion:
Catherine Baba is a stylist[2] who moved to Paris from Australia in 1996. [3] Even though her personal myspace page lists her age as 75 years old, many people believe this is in homage to the year she wishes she were born in. [4] She has been described as the most fashionable women in Paris, famed for her mix of 20s, 30s[5] and hollywood glamor pieces. [6][7] In the April 2010 issue of Vogue magazines she said that she only wears vintage fur.[8]
She is notorious for arriving at all of the Paris shows on her bicycle[9], which she rides while wearing high heels. The stylist has worked for brands such as Givenchy, Ungaro, Balmain[10] and Chanel, as well as magazines like Dazed & Confused, Vanity Fair[11] and Vogue. [12]

Anna Sui 2009 & Alexander Girard
Alexander H. Girard
(1907-1993)
from: http://www.internationalfolkart.org/about/girard-bio.html
Alexander " Sandro" Girard grew up in Florence, Italy, the son of an American mother and an Italian father. As a child he was fascinated by nativities, toys, and miniatures.
Alexander Girard first began collecting folk art in the 1930's, buying a few pieces in New York, starting with a spatter-painted Mexican bank in the shape of a horse. Later, on a postponed honeymoon, Alexander and Susan Girard traveled to Mexico and returned with a carload of things for their home, the beginnings of what was to become the largest collection of cross-cultural folk art in the world.
Alexander Girard himself designed the exhibition Multiple Visions: A Common Bond which displays more than 10,000 pieces from the Girard Foundation Collection. An interior designer and architect, he was already well-known for his bold and colorful designs of textiles, household and office furnishings, graphics, and interiors for corporate clients such as Herman Miller, Inc., John Deere and Braniff International. In this installation, he challenged the conventions of exhibition design. Notice how his design occupies the entire volume of the gallery space, how he places objects both above and below eye level, and how he used color throughout the exhibit, even overhead.
More than a million visitors have enjoyed the creativity and generosity of Alexander and Susan Girard since the exhibition opened in 1982. Like museum founder Florence Dibell Bartlett, Alexander Girard hoped visitors would see connections, the common bond, among the peoples of the world. For indeed, as an old Italian proverb oft-repeated by Sandro Girard tells us, Tutto il mondo è paese- The whole world is hometown.

Things Ariel Taught Me
THINGS ARIEL TAUGHT ME
by Vanessa King
Ariel. In 1989, she was who every young girl wanted to be. This Little Mermaid proved that if you work hard and play your cards right, you can have your cake and eat it too… on a boat, with your Prince and fireworks. Complete with a little emotional growth learned along her road to happiness, she is living-cartoon proof that you can achieve everything you want out of life, circumstances be damned.
Let’s face it: even now, I want to be her – drop-dead gorgeous, amazing hair, can sing like you wouldn’t believe, owner of the perkiest boobs EVER, former undersea Princess, rule breaker, trouble maker, problem solver, Prince-marrier and just naive enough to be cute. Even though for most of the movie she didn’t speak, if you really listen, this redhead speaks volumes.
All these years later, I’ve realized Ariel schooled me on some very important tips on growing up:
- Never show up late to a party your parents are throwing. Hell will break loose and you’ll be blamed.
- You don’t have to be satisfied with the status quo: it’s okay to push the envelope, just remember to watch out for sharks.
- One cavern can hold a lot of wonders and being a little bit of a hoarder is okay as long as nobody knows about it. You’re totally screwed if your Dad finds out, though.
- Everyone needs a Dinglehopper. Snarfblats will get you in trouble. So will boys.
- Jamaicans are the voice of reason. Listen to them.
- Love at first sight is never reliable, especially when one of you may have a concussion.
- Always read the fine print on any contract you sign. Pay extra attention to troublesome clauses that contain specific dates, mentions of “sundown” and/or “kisses of true love”.
- If you like a guy, it’s okay to make the first move. If you don’t, there’s a chance he’ll marry someone else.
- Persistence is key. Ambition will get you everywhere.
- Your friends really do have your back.
…and perhaps the most important think Ariel taught me? Every woman needs her own voice.
Ariel is hitting theaters in 3D September 2013 and I will be first in line. Until then, if anybody needs me, you’ll find me in my apartment surrounded by my gadgets and gizmos a plenty, my whoozits and whatsits galore, my thingamabobs (I’ve got 20)… but who cares? No big deal. I want more.

Sui Inspired
So I've finally got the Anna Sui book. It only took about 10 days to get here but alas it arrived yesterday morning. Several of my current projects have been stuck and after reading the first couple pages of Anna's story I got my motivation back. I will post pics later as some of them will be gifts for the family. I really love Anna's ability to mix colors and textures. I tend to be too matchy sometimes and putting black on top of grey can really bring a garment down. With Anna's style she always adds a little flair to a normally dull garment that's what really makes her fashion work. Her work is not over the top but always edgy enough to set it apart and give it that extra umph. She really pushes the girliness in her garments and I think that is lost in most of today's clothes. The ruffles, the trims, embroideries, buttons, and bows fulfill every fashionista's dream.
More on that later, time to finish packing for Barcelona!!!!

Spiced Coconut Lentil Soup
I made slight adjustments, instead of coconut oil I used sesame oil. Instead of an actual chili I put chili powder. No himalayan salt. Regular milk for half the amount of coconut milk. So yummy!

flying back to the states.
So many references lately to ¨I like the concept of..... but I don´t really like........ ¨
For example the clips from the movie Like Crazy and an FML I read last night where a guy got broken up with because his girlfriend liked the concept of him but didn´t really like him. I think the same is true with the French and Americans. Everywhere I go in Lyon, I see people wearing sweaters, jackets, purses, anything with an American Flag plastered on them. There is a shop I recently discovered called Carrie Bradshop. Obviously a play on the American series character. Anyways the store is filled with gorgous vintage items such as dress, shoes and purses. Yesterday I brought some friends there to show them and I found a necklace that was a big black heart on a gold chain that had a plastic casing of smaller hearts around the larger one. It was 25 Euros and I thought I would treat myself except when I went to pay they only accept cash. So the lady said that when I come back tomorrow the shop owner would be there. Long story short I came back to the store and was looking at the heart when I notice that the casing was loose and needed to be reglued to the heart. The shopowner saw me looking at the necklace and told me to try it on. So when I put the chain on the heart fell off and hit the ground. He picked it up and saw that the casing was loose and told me I broke it. I showed him that the clasp on the heart was broken and that´s why it fell off and the casing was like that before. Just then my friend walked in and he sees that she is with me and he immediately tells her that I broke his necklace. I explained again that it was already broke, in two places, and that I didn´t have anything to do with it. So, I tell my friend let´s go and the shop owner looks at me with his head cocked to the side and says, ¨I think that´s for the best. Go ahead, get out. ¨
Seriously?! Carrie Bradshaw wouldn´t buy anything from that janky store and I am sure that any American wouldn´t have gotten all mad-hatter about some second hand defunct jewelery. Glad I didn´t purchase it the day before.
