my first dress
I am back with the needle and thread again, determined now to finish a garment. I´ve realized I think I am more interested in making the clothes than wearing them for fashion. So, hopefully one day this will take me somewhere. Most times when I´ve put down a dream or a goal in writing it has come true. Here´s to hoping one day I will come back to this post and think that I can´t believe it started here.....
Here´s my first work in progress. I bought this tissue last year and in the encouraging words of Tim Gunn ¨Make it Work¨. So when you´ve given up or think that the idea´s a dud, don´t give up and do the best with what you´re given.
It started when I went into the store Nice Things (Yes, that´s the actual name), and fell in love with all the vintage looking dresses, sweaters, dresses, accessories. I wanted everything but couldn´t afford hardly anything (at least without some buyer´s remorse). My problem is I love fashion but I will never pay designer prices. The average price of a dress was about 75 Euros. Not too bad because it is quality Catalan design but still most of the pieces didn´t have more than 3 seams.
That´s when I was looking through the catalog back at home that I though, why can´t I make this myself for like 20% of the price?
So, I picked this simple dress on the left, I already had the pattern and some fabric I bought last year. I´ll try making one and see how it goes.....

The first fitting, not too bad. Pretty close to the Nice Things dress. Needs some shaping up and work on the sleeves. In the meantime I´ll cinch it with a belt and try to find some different fabrics.

Self-Portraits in Segovia
We´ve just arrived back in Lyon, but I wanted to share a few pictures from my outings in & outside of Segovia today.
I´m practicing my shooting technique using the self-timer. Finding places to situate the camera was sometimes tricky and sometimes the photos turned out better than I planned.
I hiked to the outside of the town to get a good view of the Alcazar castle that I visited on Monday.
This is the view from the Vera Cruz Templar church.
Consecrated in 1208, Vera Cruz was built by the Knights Templar to house a fragment of the True Cross. It has a unique 12-sided exterior with a tower on the south side that is patterned on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, It is thus not really a parish church or even a monastic church, but primarily a shrine. The relic is now housed in the nearby village church at Zamarramala.

We always seem to want those things we don't have. Moreover, we are often convinced that if we had those things we want so badly, we would finally be happy.
Is the glass half empty or half full? Life and relationships work better when the glass is half full. Below are some simple yet specific steps you can take to cultivate happiness and see the glass half full, regardless of your relationship status.
1. Be grateful
Create a sense of gratitude for what you have, for what is working, for what is wonderful and sweet in your life. A morning or evening gratitude list, written each day, can do wonders for helping you feel grateful.
2. Take care of yourself
Identify the small things in life that make you feel good, and do one daily. A short walk, a few minutes of writing in your journal, a short meditation, watching the sunset. Whatever reminds you that you are a human being and not a human doing will improve your outlook on life.
3. Be creative
Creativity and self-expression generate happiness. Schedule some creative time each day, even if it's just a few minutes of writing, painting, sculpting, etc.
4. Move
Moving our bodies generates feel-good hormones called endorphins. Move a little every day to stay happy.
5. Get someone to take care of you
It feels good to be taken care of, even in small ways. Get a massage, a manicure, someone to carry your groceries, launder your clothes, or fix something for you.
6. Read inspirational material
It helps to be reminded of positive thoughts and positive attitudes. Get a small book of positive, inspirational thoughts and keep it by your desk. Read one or two thoughts each day.
7. Contribute
Stand up for something that matters to you. Contributing, making a difference feels good. It boosts your self-esteem, your gratitude and feeling of well being.
8. Get some time
I know this one is hard, especially if you are a single parent. But if you are determined, you can find some time every day to just be. Make sure you do this - it will make a big difference in your ability to be happy.
9. Be in nature
Nature rejuvenates and restores the human spirit. Whether your brand of nature is mountains or the ocean, give yourself the gift of visiting it frequently.
10. Be happy
No matter how many wonderful things you do to create a positive, happy, satisfied life, you could still end up unhappy. Ultimately, happiness, gratitude, a feeling of satisfaction is a choice. People often do not choose happiness. Many feel refusing to be happy will somehow get them what whey want, like a child holding his breath. Holding your breath will not get your what you want. It is happiness that attracts.

El Bulli
As of April 28, 2011 the El Bulli website lists that it will close in July of 2011 "On July 30th 2011 El Bulli will have completed its journey as a restaurant. We will transform into a creativity center, opening in 2014. Its main objective is to be a think-tank for creative cuisine and gastronomy and will managed by a private foundation."

According to the Pali Tipitaka[31] and the Āgamas of other early Buddhist schools, the Four Noble Truths were the first teaching of Gautama Buddha after attaining Nirvana. They are sometimes considered to contain the essence of the Buddha's teachings:

Kundun –Gives an account of the 14th Dalai Lama, his childhood, and the invasion by China which forced his decision to leave Tibet.
Little Buddha – Aside from dealing with a present day situation, the movie also gives a good primer into the life of Buddha.
Milarepa – One of the historical figures in Tibetan Buddhism, this is the first of a two-part movie series.
- Life as we know it ultimately is or leads to suffering/uneasiness (dukkha) in one way or another.
- Suffering is caused by craving. This is often expressed as a deluded clinging to a certain sense of existence, to selfhood, or to the things or phenomena that we consider the cause of happiness or unhappiness. Craving also has its negative aspect, i.e. one craves that a certain state of affairs not exist.
- Suffering ends when craving ends. This is achieved by eliminating delusion, thereby reaching a liberated state of Enlightenment (bodhi);
- Reaching this liberated state is achieved by following the path laid out by the Buddha.

Mt. Lokon in the northern Sulawesi province first erupted Thursday night. A second eruption occurred early Friday morning, authorities said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, but teams were assessing damage, said the country's disaster management agency.

himym season 1 episode 20
just arrived back in lyon and after a crazy weekend I need to catch some sleep. So, I picked an old episode at random from How I Met Your Mother to watch in bed. I hadn´t seen this one yet and Lily and Marshall are scrambling to get everything done for their wedding which is in TWO months. Just like us. Two months from today! Not only that but Lily is worried because she didn´t get to fulfill her dream of living in France and Spain but not me. I get to do all of that and marry my best friend. I am the luckiest!

started out the morning at the Amerian consulate in BCN making a sworn statement that I a have never been married nor am I currently married, then watched the boda of Guillermo & Catherine, followed by meeting the Caterer to decide a tent vs garden reception and then creme vs. eggplant tablecloths, after that snacking on frozen yogurt with Laia as R picked out his suit with my future mom & dad-in-law, ending the night with chus and syrah while sipping on margs @ tex mex and later debating photographers and wine. must remember to get invitations tomorrow. what a day, wedding overload. T minus 3 months exactly.
